Adjust time-out TiVo menu's

Problem

If you leave the TiVo on one of the menus, it will after a delay (around 5 minutes) start playing live TV. Some people find this annoying because of the sudden burst of noise from switching to live TV.

Adjust the time-out:

In TiVoWeb, go to "Resource Editor", "Constants", and change the number of seconds to wait until timeout. I think the default on the image is 300 seconds (5 minutes exactly as per your observation), I've had mine on 900 for ages without problem. The only reason I don't have a higher number is I still use a CRT projector and prefer not to damage the tubes. Setting the value to 0, disables the time-out.

Warning

If you do decide to disable the delay and you have a CRT or Plasma TV which is showing a tivo menu for long periods you may damage the display due to burn in.

Other ways to do this

There is also a tcl-script which can alter the time-out. A thread (and the script) can be found here.

There might be another possibility, if you use trickey you could have it go into mute automagically, assuming your mute button works and there is some nice log messages that tricky could monitor.
